John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan

Volunteer or Donate

The Detroit VA Healthcare System depends on the goodwill of our benefactors and volunteers who wish to give something back to America's heroes.

Volunteering

Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the Medical Center and help make our patients' stay more enjoyable. Volunteers can perform a number of services, and a volunteer's talents are closely matched with one of our many assignments.

To volunteer, call or visit the Detroit VA Healthcare System's Voluntary Service. We will be happy to receive your application or discuss how you can help us in our mission to provide comfort and care to America's Veterans.

Donations

Cash donations are used for the comfort and welfare of our Veteran patients, including:

  • hygiene products
  • refreshment supplies
  • cable television for inpatients
  • recreational activities

Non-cash contributions are used to make our patients' stay more enjoyable. Items which are accepted include:

  • DVD/video games
  • paperback books
  • telephone cards

For more information on the particular needs of our Veteran patients, and acceptable donation items, you can download the donation needs list.

If you wish to make a donation, you can download a donor form, or contact our Voluntary Service Office at 313-576-3332.

Volunteers help at the Detroit VA Healthcare System in a variety of areas, including a fall event know as the Country Store.
