Thousands around the nation are paying tribute to Vietnam Veterans this year, with commemoration events.

On May 19th, Detroit VA staff gathered in the medical center atrium for a short ceremony and pinning to thank all Vietnam War Era Veterans, many of whom are members of our own staff!

Medical Center leadership first pinned Veterans who then pinned each other.

In Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War."

Veterans, employees and patients at the Vietnam Pinning event.

Veterans, employees and patients, participated in the May 19th event.

“We are participating in various functions throughout our community,” said Dr. Pamela Reeves, Medical Center Director. “But, it’s gratifying and emotional to make sure we recognize our own staff and our patients who we have come to know so well.”

Each Veteran received a commemorative pin.
