Green Environmental Management System
The mission of the John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center and its associated Community Based Outreach Clinics is to deliver quality health care to our nation’s Veterans. In order to accomplish this mission, this Veteran Affairs Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics recognize that we must operate so as to protect both the environment and the health and safety of patients, employees, visitors, and other stakeholders. In accomplishing our mission of providing quality healthcare to our nation’s Veterans it is our policy to:
- Develop and implement a GEMS program that will meet both the requirements of Executive Order 13693: Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade and the guidance provided by the Veterans Health Administration.
- Be a good steward of the environment by complying with federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and other requirements.
- Through the establishment of objectives and targets, continuously improve environmental stewardship by preventing pollution, minimizing waste; conserving cultural and natural resources; and utilize sustainable practices to eliminate, minimize, or mitigate adverse environmental impacts.
