Vietnam Vets Reunite at 2016 Games in Detroit
Not only was competition fierce, but for 66-year-old Vietnam Veteran, Jim Temme, there was excitement and anticipation for a special moment that was about to occur at the Golden Age Games. This was Temme’s 2nd Games.
The 2016 National Veterans Golden Age Games were held in Detroit, July 10 – 14, with nearly 700 Veterans competing in events such as Air Rifle, Boccia, Horseshoes, Golf and more. For Temme, he had some special spectators.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jim and his fellow Veterans, Bob Onyx of Ohio and Larry Eichstadt of Plymouth, Michigan reunited. It was the first time they had seen each other since their days in Vietnam, more than 50 years ago!
“It’s one of the special aspects of these Games,” said Adam Stephens, Local Organizing Committee Coordinator. “Veterans make new friends and get to reunite with old ones!”
Despite the fact that Bob and Larry aren’t competing this year, Jim did his best to encourage them to give it a try next year!
