Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center strives to provide compassionate, evidence-based, high quality care to all Veterans encompassing the full range of Gastroenterological disorders and Liver diseases.
In addition, we are a prominent teaching site for the Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Wayne SOM Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In this capacity, we train Gastroenterology fellows and residents.
The GI division is also actively involved in research. We have prominent and well-funded basic and clinical researchers on our staff. Our Veterans benefit from this as it ensures that we are providing gold-standard, evidence-based care supported by our own research. . We are one of the major sites for ongoing VA collaborative study for Colon Cancer screening.
We provide the following services to our Veteran patients:
- Endoscopic procedures:
- Feeding tube placement
- Liver biopsies
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Endoscopic ultrasound both diagnostic and therapeutic
- We provide after hrs. Emergency call coverage for Gastroenterology related disorders
- Hepatology clinics
- Hepatitis C evaluation and treatment program
- Outpatient Gastroenterology clinics
