John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan
Mental Health Intake Service
Mental Health Intake at the Detroit VA Medical Center is a bridge between Mental Health and Behavioral and Primary Care Service at the Detroit VA Medical Center. Social Workers provide initial assessment and evaluation for appropriate treatment for all eligible Veterans who require and can benefit from clinical psychological and psychopharmacological services. Intake offers services in psychological assessment, evaluation and referral for Mental Health services. Psychological assessment includes psycho-diagnostic, and structured interviews to determine present and potential functioning.
Patient care needs are assessed both individually by social workers as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Patient care needs are re-assessed by clinical interview, standardized psychological testing, direct observation, and information obtained from the patient's family and significant others.
Location of Service in Medical Center:
All patients must be referred for Mental Health services by their treating physician, nurse or psychiatrist. Referrals should be made by an electronic consult to the Behavioral Care Team.
