Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC)

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) at the Detroit VA Medical Center offers recovery-orientated services focused on helping Veterans with serious mental illness (e.g., Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and PTSD), live personally fulfilling lives. The PRRC offers programming that is built upon the recovery principles of personal strength and empowerment. All Veterans served by the PRRC are educated on the recovery model and provided with the support and skills necessary to achieve their personal goals and community roles. The Veterans are guided by recovery-orientated interventions that are meant to foster improvements in all domains of their lives and increase their access to natural community-based supports.

The PRRC team partners with Veterans and assists them in reaching their self-chosen goals by providing support, education, and treatment opportunities meant to foster empowerment, instill hope, validate strengths, teach life skills, and facilitate community integration. The PRRC offers an array of services five days a week, including both individual and group therapy that utilizes methods that have been proven to be effective in recovery-focused research. Services provided include the following: individual recovery planning, mental health education and skills building, wellness and enrichment opportunities, community experiences, peer support, case management and family education.

The PRRC program is CARF (Commission on Accreditation Rehabilitation Facilities) and JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accredited.
